GREUBEL FORSEY UNVEILS HAND MADE 2: THE ULTIMATE EXPRESSION OF TRUE HAND WATCHMAKING

JANUARY 21 2025    |    Novelties

Hand Made 2 embodies the ultimate pursuit of hand watchmaking. Every component, whether visible or hidden, is created, finished, and assembled by hand with unprecedented rigor. Over 5,000 hours are required to complete the 270 components of this four handed 40.9mm timepiece, 96% of which are entirely handmade. Only two to three such timepieces can be crafted each year, our commitment to the highest level of craftsmanship.

In a highly mechanised industry where the concept of "hand made" is often opaque, Greubel Forsey stands out with a transparent and very strict definition, showcasing exactly what "hand made" truly means to reach its standards.

WHAT HAND MADE MEANS TO GREUBEL FORSEY
For Greubel Forsey, "hand made" entails:

  1. All components, except five – sapphire crystals, case gaskets, spring bars, mainspring, and most jewels – are crafted by hand using traditional tools such as a precision lathe, a jig-borer, or a pantograph. A major milestone of the Hand Made 2 is the creation of a handcrafted conical jewel for the power reserve indicator, advancing handcraftsmanship even further.
  2. Each component is manually machined with tolerances of just a few microns, achieving a precision comparable to modern CNC machines.
  3. Every component, whether visible or hidden, is meticulously finished by hand.
  4. Each timepiece is assembled entirely by hand by a single watchmaker.

HAND MADE 2: PUSHING THE LIMITS
Distinctly Greubel Forsey yet revolutionary, Hand Made 2 pushes technical and aesthetic boundaries. Its large conical jewel symbolises this pursuit. In its workshop, Greubel Forsey preserves rare skills, develops unique expertise, and passes it on to future generations with an inexhaustible passion for innovation.

MASTERING THE BALANCE SPRING
Since 2012, Greubel Forsey has been rediscov¬ering traditional techniques for crafting balance springs, a key component for timekeeping pre¬cision. Each spring is made from a carefully selected alloy for its unique properties and individually adjusted by an expert watchmaker. This complex process, including coiling, cutting, and manually adjusting terminal curves, ensures perfect synchronisation with the balance wheel.

TIMELESS AESTHETICS AND EXCEPTIONAL RARITY
Hand Made 2 combines 18th-century elegance with Greubel Forsey’s signature modern innovation. The barrel and balance bridges create remarkable harmony, each enhanced by five artisanal finishes: frosted, black-polished, straight-grained, polished flanks and bevels, and the polished chamfers ac¬cented by olive-domed jewels set in gold chatons.

The hand-frosted German silver contrasts beautifully with the Grand Feu enamel dials for the hours, small seconds, and power reserve. Blued steel hands, deep red rubies, golden reflections of wheels and barrels, and the bright edges of polished steel bridges bring a vibrant chromatic depth to every component. Beneath a thin bezel, the architectural movement opens up to the ob¬server, offering a unique perspective throughout the timepiece. The case back extends this harmony, revealing a perfectly coherent mechanism where every detail reflects extraordinary handcrafts¬manship. The Hand Made 2 is not merely a watch; it is an invitation to admire excellence through a mechanical work of art.

EXCEPTIONAL RARITY
Each year, Greubel Forsey’s Hand Made workshop can complete only two to three Hand Made 2 time¬pieces, making it one of the rarest and most ex¬clusive creations from the Greubel Forsey Atelier.

Introducing the Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance Ruby

ARMIN STROM introduces a compelling new interpretation of its most emblematic complication with the debut of the Mirrored Force Resonance Ruby. This creation stands out through its extraordinary natural ruby dial, sourced and crafted by a local Swiss stone artisan. The brand selected only genuine ruby exhibiting depth of colour, fine inclusions, and naturally occurring variations—features that are not flaws but signatures of authenticity, shaped by geological processes over millions of years. As light moves across the dial, subtle tonal shifts appear, infusing the watch with a vibrant mineral presence that contrasts strikingly with the symmetry and modernity of the exposed mechanics.

Beyond its visual impact, this edition embodies ARMIN STROM’s belief that materials must carry meaning. While natural ruby asserts its aesthetic and symbolic presence on the dial, synthetic ruby jewels within the movement fulfil their longstanding horological role of reducing friction and ensuring long-term precision. It is a thoughtful dialogue between nature and engineering, where raw mineral beauty coexists with technical necessity.

At the core of the watch lies the hand-finished Calibre ARF21, a manufacture movement entirely designed and produced in-house. Its defining feature is the brand’s patented Resonance Clutch Spring, which connects two independent regulating systems, enabling the balance wheels to oscillate in harmonic resonance. This phenomenon enhances chronometric stability and is visually showcased by a pusher at 2 o’clock that resets both seconds hands simultaneously—a dramatic demonstration of mechanical synchronicity in action. Operating at 3.5 Hz (25,200 vph) and offering a 48-hour power reserve, the movement transforms a centuries-old scientific principle into contemporary watchmaking mastery.

Craftsmanship remains central to ARMIN STROM’s ethos. The bridges feature hand-polished bevels, black-polished screws, perlage, and circular graining, with Geneva stripes enriching the reverse side. As with every ARMIN STROM timepiece, each watch is assembled twice, ensuring absolute performance and finishing quality. This meticulous approach, combined with the vibrant ruby dial, creates a visually dynamic composition—a living interplay between stone, metal, and motion.

Encased in a 43 mm stainless steel case and fitted with a grey Alcantara strap featuring white stitching, the Mirrored Force Resonance Ruby delivers both presence and refinement. It is not merely a new dial variation, but an artistic expression grounded in horological integrity—an encounter between natural geology and mechanical resonance, distilled into a timepiece of exceptional character.

Angelus Unveils Flying Tourbillon Skeleton Titanium in Vivid Orange

Angelus unveils the Flying Tourbillon Skeleton Titanium, Orange Edition, a vivid expression of horological energy and design. Limited to just 25 pieces, this timepiece transforms skeletonised mechanics into a canvas of colour and contrast. The satin-finished titanium case frames a deep black movement, animated by bright orange accents that highlight the time display and extend to three interchangeable straps. The openwork calibre, designed as a series of interlocking circles, adds architectural depth and visual dynamism.

Every detail of this 42.5 mm watch reflects a unique energy. Chromatic energy flows through the orange highlights. Customisable energy is offered by the quick-release strap system, allowing seamless transitions between black alligator leather, orange rubber, and integrated titanium. Light energy emerges from the skeletonised movement, while structural energy is revealed in the layered construction. Graphic energy is embodied in the three-dimensional architecture of the A-310 calibre.

The dial features a floating orange minute track above a black flange, with hour markers crafted for the first time by Angelus in monolithic blocks of Super-LumiNova. These luminous elements ensure legibility in low light and reinforce the watch’s modern aesthetic. At the heart of the case lies a carbon composite chamber, lightweight yet rigid, surrounded by a modular titanium cage that enhances stability and mechanical appeal.

The A-310 calibre showcases Angelus’s signature three-spoke wheels, leading the eye to the flying tourbillon suspended without an upper bridge. Supported by a 160° angled bridge, this asymmetrical design intensifies visual tension and balance. The tourbillon completes a rotation every minute, oscillates at 4 Hz, and offers a 60-hour power reserve. The Flying Tourbillon Skeleton Titanium, Orange Edition embodies the Angelus L.A.B. philosophy—Legacy and Beyond—where technical mastery meets bold design to elevate mechanics into contemporary art.
