Often called the "stone of storms," this decorative mineral belongs to the chalcedony family and was first discovered by Sid Pieters in the early 1960s. Each unique dial displays delicate, swirling patterns that recall the turbulent skies and foaming waves of Cornwall, the English birthplace of founder John Arnold. This design pays tribute to the ingenuity of the legendary watchmaker while celebrating the spirit of those who maintain their course in a challenging world.

The designation "HM" was intentionally chosen to reflect the watch's focus on displaying only hours and minutes, while simultaneously serving as a historical nod to the British Royal Navy. In naval tradition, HM stands for "His or Her Majesty’s," a title that appeared in the 17th century and was later formalized as HMS. By transposing this reference to watchmaking, Arnold & Son connects the precision of modern horology with England's maritime history, specifically the era when John Arnold’s marine chronometers enabled the exploration of new lands.

Encased in a choice of 18-carat red gold or stainless steel, the HM Pietersite is a masterpiece of elegance and restraint. This special anniversary edition combines traditional 19th-century craftsmanship with a modern aesthetic, paying homage to the visionary watchmaker, scientist, and founder of the German Watchmaking School. The manufactory in Glashütte continues to honor this rich heritage by blending historical techniques with contemporary design.

The dial of the watch is crafted using a meticulous silver-plating by friction technique, also known as silver-plating by grit, which is executed entirely by hand through multiple complex steps involving silver powder, salt, tartar, and water. This traditional process imparts a velvety, matte structure with remarkable optical depth, further enhanced by a unique green-tinged blue hue that shifts dynamically depending on the angle and lighting. Contrasting the textured surface are engraved Roman numerals lacquered in blue, alongside the historic 1875 'M. Grossmann' logo, scale markers, and manually crafted steel hands annealed to a vibrant blue hue.

Housed in a slender and expressive 36-millimeter stainless steel case with a flat profile, the watch is designed to offer exceptional comfort and elegance on any wrist. Powering the watch is the manufacture Calibre ASS20, developed and produced entirely in-house around the world's first on-demand date display on a ceramic bezel. This innovative mechanism rethinks the relationship between wearer and complication by displaying the date only when requested. Activated by a pusher at 10 o'clock, the date hand moves from its neutral position to indicate the current date on the bezel and advances automatically at midnight. A second press returns it discreetly to 12 o'clock, leaving the dial free from unnecessary information.
